Resumen de A Promised Land

A Promised Land is Barack Obama’s first presidential memoir, published in 2020, covering his life from childhood through the early months of his presidency and ending with the killing of Osama bin Laden. The book opens with Obama’s upbringing in Hawaii and Indonesia, his years as a community organizer in Chicago, his education at Columbia and Harvard Law, and his rise through Illinois politics to the U.S. Senate. A central thread is his 2008 campaign against Hillary Clinton and John McCain, including the grassroots organizing model, the Jeremiah Wright controversy, and his landmark speech on race. The memoir then moves into the transition and Obama’s early presidency during the 2008 financial crisis. He details the internal debates over the economic stimulus, the auto industry bailout, and the Dodd-Frank financial reforms. Substantial sections address the Affordable Care Act, including the fight over the public option, and his deliberations over the Afghanistan troop surge. Obama also describes his relationships with figures such as Joe Biden, Rahm Emanuel, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama, as well as foreign leaders like Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel. The narrative reflects on race, identity, and the limits of presidential power, and closes with the raid on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad.
