He also advises purchasing “experience insurance” like long-term care policies to avoid hoarding for worst-case scenarios, and automating savings so you don’t default to endless accumulation. A recurring argument is that over-saving is a hidden risk, not a virtue, because unused money represents wasted potential experiences. Perkins challenges the retirement industry’s assumption that more is always safer, and proposes “time buckets” for different life stages.
