In Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, Daniel H. Pink argues that the traditional carrot-and-stick approach to motivation—rewarding good behavior and punishing bad—is outdated and often counterproductive for complex, creative work. Drawing on research in psychology and behavioral economics, including experiments by Edward Deci and Richard Ryan on self-determination theory, Pink proposes a new framework built on three innate psychological needs: autonomy, mastery, and purpose.
