Money: Master the Game

In Money: Master the Game, Tony Robbins translates interviews with dozens of financial titans into a prescriptive system for individual investors. The 2014 book grew out of Robbins's frustration that most Americans were locked out of the sophisticated advice available to the wealthy, so he sought out figures such as Ray Dalio, Warren Buffett, Carl Icahn, John Bogle, and David Swensen to extract their methods. A central framework is the "Money Machine," Robbins's term for a portfolio engineered to generate reliable income in retirement regardless of market swings. To explain risk, he uses the analogy of a winter storm: most investors prepare for mild weather and get wiped out by blizzards, so he advocates an "all-seasons" approach inspired by Dalio's balanced asset allocation. Robbins also critiques the conventional wisdom of "average annual returns," showing how sequence-of-returns risk can devastate retirees who withdraw during downturns. Later chapters cover annuities, index funds, tax strategy, and the psychology of giving, including Robbins's argument that fulfillment comes from contribution rather than accumulation. Throughout, he pairs expert interviews with plain-language explanations and exercises designed to make readers set concrete targets. Though critics note its length and occasional cheerleading tone, the book is best known for popularizing Dalio's risk-parity ideas and Bogle's low-cost indexing to a mass audience.
