Pitch Anything

In Pitch Anything, Oren Klaff draws on his experience as an investment banker to argue that successful persuasion is less about the quality of your data than about how you frame and deliver it. Klaff contends that every pitch is really a contest between the presenter’s and the audience’s "croc brain"—the primitive, instinctive part of the mind that decides within seconds whether to fight, flee, or pay attention—and a newer, rational "neocortex." His central method, the STRONG system, walks through setting the frame, telling the story, revealing intrigue, offering the prize, nailing the hookpoint, and closing the deal. A distinctive concept is "frame control." Klaff describes how audiences impose frames—power, time, analyst, and money frames—and how a presenter must recognize and break them, replacing them with a frame of his own, often through small status moves and the strategic use of tension.
