The Founder's Dilemmas

In *The Founder’s Dilemmas*, Noam Wasserman examines the recurring tensions that shape how new ventures are built and who ultimately profits from them. Drawing on a decade of research at Harvard Business School, including a dataset of nearly 10,000 founders, Wasserman argues that most startup crises stem not from bad luck but from predictable trade-offs between money and control. He organizes the book around a sequence of dilemmas that unfold across the founder’s journey: whether to found solo or with a team, whether to hire friends or strangers, whether to bring in investors or bootstrap, and whether to stay as CEO or step aside.
