In *Turn the Ship Around!*, former U.S. Navy captain L. David Marquet recounts his experience taking command of the USS Santa Fe, a nuclear submarine widely regarded as one of the worst-performing in the fleet, and turning it into a top performer by abandoning traditional top-down leadership. Marquet had trained to command a different submarine and was reassigned late to the Santa Fe; rather than learn every technical detail of an unfamiliar vessel, he changed how authority flowed through it.
