Visible Learning

Visible Learning by John Hattie is a synthesis of over 800 meta-analyses covering more than 50,000 individual studies and millions of students, making it one of the largest evidence-based reviews of what actually influences student achievement. First published in 2009, the book ranks 138 influences on learning according to their effect size, with an average effect of 0.40 serving as the benchmark for one year of typical schooling. Hattie’s central argument is that educators should make learning visible to both teachers and students, so that teaching becomes a deliberate process of evaluating impact rather than relying on intuition or tradition.
