Robert A. Caro’s "The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York" is a landmark 1974 biography of Robert Moses, the unelected official who shaped modern New York. Caro, a former Newsday investigative reporter, spent years documenting how Moses accumulated extraordinary authority without ever holding elective office.
