『The Sea of Monsters』要約

"The Sea of Monsters," the second installment in Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" series, plunges its demigod protagonist Percy Jackson into another urgent quest to save his world. Following a chaotic seventh-grade year marked by monster attacks, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood only to find it under existential threat. The magical borders protecting the camp, sustained by the spirit of Thalia, daughter of Zeus, are failing because Thalia's pine tree has been mysteriously poisoned. With the camp's defenses compromised and Chiron, the centaur activities director, replaced, a desperate solution emerges: locate the legendary Golden Fleece, which possesses the power to heal anything. Complicating matters, Percy discovers he has a half-brother, a Cyclops named Tyson, whose presence initially causes discomfort and misunderstanding. Simultaneously, Percy receives a distress call from his satyr best friend, Grover Underwood, who has stumbled upon a discovery related to the Golden Fleece but is now in grave danger. Defying camp authorities who assign the quest to a more 'qualified' demigod, Percy, along with Annabeth Chase, embarks on an unsanctioned journey into the perilous "Sea of Monsters," known to mortals as the Bermuda Triangle. Their mission is fraught with dangers drawn directly from Greek mythology, including encounters with the monstrous Scylla and Charybdis, the enchantress Circe, and the Sirens, all while navigating the treacherous waters and islands where Luke Castellan, Percy's former friend and antagonist, lurks with his own dark agenda. The novel weaves a narrative rich with ancient myths, blending them seamlessly into a modern setting as Percy races against time to retrieve the Fleece, save Grover, and ultimately, rescue Camp Half-Blood from impending destruction.
